Will a scammer know their comment was hidden?

No. They still see their own comment, so nothing looks different to them and they have no reason to try again with new wording.

What about real complaints that mention a scam?

A customer saying "is this a scam?" is asking a question, not running one. CommentGate keeps those up and can draft a reply, because answering them is what builds trust.
