Answer a word in a direct message

The Someone messages a word trigger starts a campaign when a direct message contains your word. Use it when you tell people "DM us RESTOCK" in a caption, a story or a video.

Set it up

1. Click New campaign and pick Start from scratch (or any template).
2. Click the trigger card, and under Starts when pick Someone messages a word.
3. Under Listens on, tick Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or WhatsApp.
4. Type each word in Words and press Enter.
5. Under Match, pick Message mentions it or Message is just the word.
6. Under Accounts, keep Every account or tick the ones you want.
7. Add steps under the trigger and click Turn on.

Capitals, accents and emoji do not matter, and the word has to be a whole word.

What you can send

The person wrote to you, so the conversation is already open. Unlike a comment trigger, you can send several messages in a row, ask for their email or phone at once, and check they follow on Instagram, all without a button first. That lasts 24 hours after their last message (48 on TikTok). Every tap or reply starts the 24 hours again.

When two things could answer

• A person already in this campaign is not started on it again until they finish.
• If they are waiting in another campaign (for a tap or an answer), their message goes to that campaign first.
• Messages nothing else answers can get your Default reply from Setup, When someone messages you.

Platform notes

• TikTok: messages work for TikTok accounts where TikTok allows business messaging. TikTok does not offer it for accounts in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK. On Setup, When someone messages you on TikTok, Where this account was created tells you what TikTok allows for each account.
• WhatsApp: replies inside the 24 hours are free. See WhatsApp campaigns and templates.
• YouTube and Threads have no direct messages, so they are not offered here.
