Start a campaign from a chat link or QR code
Make a link or QR code that opens a chat with you, print it on packaging or put it in your bio, and start a campaign when people use it.
Updated
A chat link opens a conversation with your Facebook Page, Instagram account, TikTok account or WhatsApp number. Each link has a name, and a campaign with the Someone opens your link or QR code trigger starts when someone arrives through the link with that name. The Launch waitlist template is built this way.
Use one link per place, so you can tell them apart: a QR code on the box insert, another in your bio, another on a flyer.
1. Make the link and QR code
- Open Setup and find When someone messages you.
- Under Chat links and QR codes, pick the Account.
- Type a name in Name it, for example launch. Use the same name in the campaign.
- Click Copy link, or Download QR code for print.
For WhatsApp, the link and QR code are under When someone messages you on WhatsApp, Chat link and QR code. For TikTok, they are under When someone messages you on TikTok, Chat link and QR code, for each account TikTok allows messages on.
2. Turn on what the link needs
People who have never messaged you need something to tap before the chat starts, so each platform needs one thing turned on in Setup, When someone messages you:
- Instagram: turn on Questions to tap. On the board, a missing one shows as "Instagram needs Questions to tap for this link. Turn it on in Setup, When someone messages you".
- Facebook: turn on Welcome new people, which adds the Get Started button on Messenger. On the board: "Facebook needs Welcome new people for this link. Turn it on in Setup, When someone messages you".
Without them, the link still opens a chat, but people who have never written to you arrive without the link's name, so the campaign cannot tell where they came from.
TikTok needs nothing turned on. Its links open in the TikTok app on phones only, not on TikTok on the web, and the campaign starts when the person sends their first message.
3. Build the campaign
- Click New campaign and pick Launch waitlist, or start from scratch.
- Click the trigger card and pick Someone opens your link or QR code under Starts when.
- Tick the platforms under Listens on (the ones you made links for), and type the same name in Link name (letters, numbers, dashes and underscores).
- Add your steps and click Turn on.
Because the person opened the chat themselves, you can send several messages and ask for their email or phone at once.
WhatsApp: the message typed in for them
A WhatsApp link opens the chat with a message already typed, ready to send. Write it in WhatsApp message typed in for them, for example "Hi! I'd like the summer deal". The link adds "(code launch)" at the end so the campaign knows which link it was, up to 140 characters in all. The campaign starts when they tap send.
