What each platform allows: hide, delete, reply and like

CommentGate can only do what each platform lets outside apps do. When a platform does not allow something, the button stays visible in CommentGate and tells you why, instead of silently failing.

Hide or delete?

Hide is the safe choice and what the autopilot uses: the comment disappears from your post or ad, and you can unhide it at any time.

Delete removes a comment for good. It only exists on Facebook and Instagram, and a deleted comment cannot come back.

TikTok, YouTube and Threads do not let anyone delete other people's comments, so CommentGate hides them there.

Platform by platform

Facebook

Everything in the table, plus Block on Facebook in a comment's menu, so they can no longer comment on or message your Page. After you unblock someone, Facebook will not let you block them again for 48 hours.

Instagram

• You cannot reply to a hidden Instagram comment. When a rule both answers and hides, CommentGate replies first, then hides.
• Liking comments needs one extra permission. If Setup says so, reconnect on Accounts and allow it.
• Comments on live videos can be read while the video is live but cannot be hidden.
• Stories do not take comments. Comments on catalog ads may not all reach your inbox.

TikTok

• Hide and reply on posts and ads. Like works on your account's posts, not on ads.
• Comments you hid with TikTok's own filters show as hidden in CommentGate, and you can unhide them.
• On ads, replies go only on top-level comments, and not on every kind of Spark Ad.

YouTube

• Hide holds the comment for review in YouTube Studio, so you can bring it back.
• Remove and block on YouTube removes the comment for good and hides what that person writes next on your channel. It cannot be undone, so it only happens when you choose it.
• Replies go under top-level comments, never to a comment on hold, and YouTube limits how many go out each day.
• New comments are checked about every 5 minutes.

Threads

• Hiding works on replies made directly to your post, and hides the replies under them too.
• No delete, like, private reply or block.

Muting instead of blocking

Where a platform has no block, use Mute author in a comment's menu. Rules that act on muted authors then apply to everything that person writes, so you can hide them all as they arrive.
