Stop spam waves and bot floods

Sometimes a bot network drops the same comment, or the same link, on dozens of your posts and ads in minutes. Hide spam on Setup catches most of it. For whole waves, add the Hide spam waves rule.

Add the rule

1. Open Setup, click Advanced, then Rules.
2. Under Starter rules, find Hide spam waves: "When a bot network floods your posts and ads with the same text or link, every copy is hidden."
3. Click Add rule. Or click Adjust first to change it before saving.

If you have no rules yet, the starter rules are the first thing on the page.

What counts as a wave

Comments on your own accounts in the last 30 minutes that share:

• the same or nearly the same words,
• the same link, or
• one person commenting on many posts.

By default a wave counts at 10 alike. To change it, open the rule, click the condition is part of a spam wave and move How many alike before it counts (3 to 100). Lower catches waves sooner but may catch a real crowd saying the same thing, like "Love it!" on a launch.

The first few comments of a wave are checked again once it reaches that size, so they are hidden too.

In Settings, Alerts, tick A sudden rush of harmful comments on an email, Slack or Discord channel. See Alerts.

If a wave keeps coming and you want a person to look at everything, turn on Crisis mode.
