"Reconnect needed": what it means and how to fix it

A platform asked you to sign in again. Until you reconnect, comments on that account are not read or acted on. It takes a minute.

Updated

On Accounts, a login marked Needs reconnecting has stopped working. The line under its name says why, followed by "Reconnect to keep moderating."

Fix it

  1. Open Accounts.
  2. Press Reconnect on the login that needs it.
  3. Sign in on the platform's page with the same login you used before, and allow everything it asks for.

You come back to Accounts with a note that it is connected. Nothing you set up is lost: switches, rules and history stay as they were.

Only owners, admins and managers can reconnect. If you do not see the button, ask one of them.

Why it happens

  • You changed your password or signed out of all sessions on the platform.
  • Your access changed. You lost your admin role on a Facebook Page, or someone removed CommentGate in the platform's settings.
  • A permission was left off. For example: "TikTok did not give permission to read and hide comments. Reconnect and leave every permission switched on." Or for YouTube: "Google did not give permission to manage comments. Reconnect and leave the YouTube permission ticked."
  • The sign-in expired. TikTok asks every connected account to sign in again once a year; Accounts shows "Reconnect before" and the date. A Threads sign-in also runs out if it is not renewed, and Accounts warns you a few days before.

Do it soon

While a login needs reconnecting, its comments are not read, hidden or answered. Hides that failed show on Home under Needs attention with a Reconnect button.

Get told next time

Add an alert for An account needs reconnecting: Settings, Alerts, add or edit a channel, and tick it under Tell me when. Email channels have it ticked from the start.

Reconnect keeps failing

  • Sign in with the login that manages the Page or account, not a personal one without access.
  • On Facebook, your role on the Page must let you moderate comments. If Accounts says "Nothing to watch came with this login", check that login's access, then reconnect.
  • On YouTube, only the channel owner (or a Brand Account owner or manager) can connect it.
