The holiday sale comment playbook: Black Friday to Christmas
From the week before Black Friday to the last shipping day before Christmas, the same questions and the same scams arrive in waves. Here is what to prepare, what to answer, what to hide, and when to change your answers.

The holiday season is when your ads get the most readers and your team has the least time. Comment volume climbs from the week before Black Friday, spikes over the long weekend, and stays high until the last day you can promise delivery before Christmas. The questions change along the way, and so do the scams.
This year Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, which puts Black Friday on November 27 and Cyber Monday on November 30. Christmas is a Friday. Everything below works back from those dates and from your own last shipping day.

Two weeks before: write the answers now
The best holiday replies are written in October, when nobody is rushed. Almost every comment in the season is one of a handful of questions, so write each answer once and reuse it.
- Delivery dates. "Will this arrive before Christmas?" is the question of December. Decide your order-by date for standard and express shipping, per country you ship to, based on your carriers' published holiday deadlines and your own packing time. Write it as one sentence: "Order by December 15 for delivery by Christmas anywhere in the contiguous US."
- Stock. "Is the Moss in a size 10 back?" Decide what you will say when a size sells out: a restock date if you have one, a waitlist link if you do not.
- Discounts. Which code, how long it runs, whether it stacks, whether it applies to items already on sale. Ambiguity here produces a comment thread per ad.
- Returns and gifts. Your holiday return window, gift receipts, and whether gifts can be exchanged by the person who received them.
- International orders. Shipping times and costs to the UK, Canada, Australia and the other places you sell, and who pays duties.
Put these in one place your whole team can read. If you use a comment tool, put them where it drafts replies from.
Get your accounts in order
- Connect every account and ad account you will run holiday ads from, including the Instagram account behind each Page and any new TikTok ad account.
- Add sale words to your blocked-word lists carefully. Scams will copy your promotion's language, but so will your customers. Block the lookalike store domains and fake handles, not "Black Friday".
- Decide who is on shift over the long weekend, and what they can decide alone.
The long weekend: speed and scams
From Black Friday to Cyber Monday, the comments under a strong ad move faster than anyone can read them. Two things matter most.
Answer the buying questions first
Questions about stock, sizing and codes come from people who are about to buy. An answer in ten minutes sells; an answer on Tuesday does not. Answer the busiest ads first, and answer questions before you do anything else nearby.
Keep replies varied. On TikTok, many near-identical replies sent in a short window can be hidden as spam (TikTok, reply to a comment), and YouTube warns that "repeatedly posting the same comment" may be detected as spam (YouTube Help: comments not showing). Two or three wordings of each answer are enough.
Hide the holiday scams
Scammers follow the reach, and the long weekend is when your reach is highest. Expect the same patterns as the rest of the year, dressed for the season:
- Fake discount links. "Same boots 70% off today only" pointing to a lookalike store.
- Fake giveaway winners. "You won our Black Friday giveaway, claim at the link in our bio" from an account using your logo.
- Fake support accounts replying to customers who asked about an order, asking them to message a lookalike page or share card details.
- Gift card and "free shipping code" offers that lead to a phishing page.
Hide these on sight. Do not argue with them or reply "this is a scam": it pushes the comment up and tells the scammer the account is watched. If an account impersonates your brand, report it to the platform as well (fake support accounts and how to report them). Our scam comment guide covers every pattern in detail.
December: every answer carries a date
In December, the question under every ad becomes some version of "will it arrive in time?" Change your saved answers so the date is in every relevant reply, and update them the day it changes:
- Early December: standard shipping arrives before Christmas. Say so, with the order-by date.
- The last week for standard shipping: lead with the date. "Order by Tuesday for standard delivery before Christmas."
- Express only: say what express costs and the last day for it.
- After your last shipping day: stop promising delivery. Point to gift cards, in-store pickup if you have it, or "it will arrive after the holidays, and exchanges run until the end of January."
Comment-to-DM campaigns work well in December for gift guides and last-minute codes (running a comment-to-DM launch). On Facebook and Instagram, a private reply is one message within 7 days of the comment (Meta: private replies), so a campaign that answers within minutes is well inside it.

Delivery complaints: answer them in public
Some orders will be late, and some customers will say so under your ads. Treat these as questions, not attacks: apologize once, say what you know, and move order details to a private message. Hide the comment only if it contains personal information, and reply before you hide it.
A few complaints are not moderation decisions. A customer threatening a chargeback, or reporting a product that hurt them, should reach someone who can see the order. Our guide to negative comments under ads covers how to sort them.
After Christmas
The last stretch is returns and gift exchanges. Update your saved answers to your return window and how gift recipients can exchange without a receipt. Scam comments slow down with ad spend, but fake support accounts linger under old ads longest, because that is where unhappy customers ask about returns. Keep checking ads you have paused; comments still arrive on them.
Running the season with CommentGate
CommentGate reads every comment on your posts and ads across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Threads, so the whole season fits in one list.
- Scams and fake support accounts are hidden within seconds on Facebook and Instagram and within minutes on TikTok and YouTube, including ads built in Ads Manager that never appear on your Page.
- Holiday answers come from your notes. Write your order-by dates, codes and return window in your notes once, update them when a date passes, and every drafted reply uses the new date. Approve drafts during the long weekend, or let clear answers send on their own.
- Each reply is written for the comment in front of it, so dozens of "will it arrive by Christmas?" answers do not read like copies.
- Only real calls wait for you. Chargeback threats and safety reports go to Needs you, and you get an alert in Slack, Discord or email if hidden comments suddenly spike.
Set it up before the rush: start with the three-step setup, and if you run stores for clients, the agency playbook covers several brands at once. Pricing is by comments, on one page.
